Heated Dog Bed

Posted in Dog beds & crates at 9:25 pm by Pet Luxury

Heated Pet BedIf you’ve got an older dog who gets chilled easily, or the weather is just turning cold and Fido doesn’t like it, then perhaps you need to check into heated dog beds.

For example, the TheraBed heated pet bed provides “natural pain relief for aging and arthritic animals and soothing comfort for younger dogs.” It features comfortable looking orthopedic foam, a machine-washable micro-suede cover, and built-in bolsters to surround your dog and keep him warm.

The Flat Screen Heater keeps the bed evenly warmed at 102 degrees and plugs into any electrical outlet. There’s a pet-safe low-voltage system with electronic safety and temperature controls to prevent overheating (sounds better than the old electric blanket my mom used to have… that thing would scorch your toes if you hit it in the wrong spot).

The TheraBed is available in several sizes with prices starting at $80 for small dogs:

Custom Dog Crate for Your ATV

Posted in Dog beds & crates at 2:24 pm by Pet Luxury

custom dog crateIf you’re big into hunting with your dog, you may want to take the pup off road to get to the great areas where a car just can’t reach. An ATV can be perfect, but unless you want to ride with Fido in your lap, there may not have been a good spot for him to travel. Until now…

Now you can get sturdy custom-built dog crates that are specifically designed for your off-road vehicle.

Check out this crate which was made to fit an ATV.

It’s the work of Kustom Krates who say, “We contain ‘em, so you can train ‘em.” Their heavy duty aluminum crates are designed to latch just like car doors, so there’s no way Fido is going to fall out when you’re chugging up a mountain. Latches and hinges are stainless steel, so they won’t rust in the rain.

Check out the website for more examples of work they’ve done, or browse online for lots of great dog crate ideas.

Dog Crate Doubles as Bedside Table

Posted in Dog beds & crates at 9:35 pm by Pet Luxury

Dog Crate Furniture TableIf you’ve succeeded in crate training your dog, you may actually be able to get him or her to sleep in a crate next to your bed instead of on your bed (and under the covers with the head on the pillow…). The downside is that bedrooms usually aren’t that big, and it can get crowded quickly if you’ve got a dog crate in there as well as a bed, bedside tables, dressers, etc.

The solution?

Consider combining furniture pieces. For inspiration, check out this dog crate from Crate Haven: it doubles as a dog bed and a perfectly functional bedside table.

Pick up something like this, and you’ll enjoy the extra space it frees up, and Fido will appreciate the chance to sleep so closely to you at night.

Extra Tough Dog Bed for Your SUV or Car

Posted in Dog beds & crates at 2:17 pm by Pet Luxury

car/suv dog bedWhen I got my rescue vizsla last year, I found out quickly that he’s not big on lying on hard surfaces. I guess I can’t blame him: he doesn’t have a lot of cushy fur for padding like a lot of other breeds. I put down the back seat in my suv, but he preferred to ride shot gun! I finally got him to ride in the back (without having to tell him to get out of my passenger’s lap) by putting his dog bed back there. Now he curls up and rides nicely.

I never thought of getting a dog bed specifically sized for the back of the car, but when I saw this one over at Etsy, I thought it was a good idea. In addition, the bed is made from an extra tough material that can stand up to rowdy dogs:

“Made from durable Duck Canvas which is the same TOUGH material used Sails, Humvee Tops & Backpacks! Although nothing is 100% indestructible to an animal that can chew rawhide at ease, this is one of the toughest fabrics I can order that is still comfortable for them to sleep on! Makes a wonderful comfy bed for your pet.”

Dog Beds? Naw, Canine Caves… (Only $5,900)

Posted in Dog beds & crates at 1:15 pm by Pet Luxury

dog houses like densAs much as some owners tends to think otherwise, dogs are not people. So why should their dog beds mimick people beds? Why not create a nature-inspired “den” for them in your home?

“This Canine Fine Art Cave was named after Browning Passage, an inlet just off Tofino, B.C. where its arch was found. Once caught floating out to sea, it is now mated to a soft, brown Terrier-Rock cave similar in color to many rocks found along the passage. Majestic yet compact, this fine art cave was made for the canine companion who prefers an out-of-the-way spot to rest!

Once through the grand cathedral-like entry of the root, a quick turn to the right brings the new owner immediately into the spacious, cushion cavern in the rear of the cave. Here they can either curl up or stretch out in complete privacy. For those companions concerned about home security, a perimeter-sized cushion can be made to utilize the entire floor area allowing for a clear view of the room from inside the cave. Comes with its own Sidekick Rock.”

What a fun idea, though I don’t suppose this look would go with many people’s living room furniture… (I don’t know about you, but I don’t have roots in my couch!)

Still, the canine cave looks a lot more interesting than a crate or your average dog bed!

Of course, this kind of canine luxury comes at a price…

Palatial Windsor Canopy Bed for Small Dogs

Posted in Dog beds & crates at 2:16 pm by Pet Luxury

canopy dog bedIf you want to pamper your small dog (up to 25 pounds) with a pet bed that’s as luxurious as what you sleep on (or, in my case, more luxurious than what I sleep on…) this palatial Windsor Canopy Bed is sure to impress.

“The bed features a soft and shiny gold sheer fabric flowing over the iron canopy, four complimenting tassels that tie around each end, with an additional tassel at the top.”

I’m a bit jealous. My bed doesn’t have any tassels.

The Windsor’s bedding ensemble comes with a matching bed ruffle, and both are machine washable and safe for the dryer.

Available color combinations are: Leopard/Brown Vein, Ebony Toile/Black, and Moss Chenille/Brown Vein

Wicker Dog Crate with Hidden Storage

Posted in Dog beds & crates at 6:38 pm by Pet Luxury

fancy dog crateLooking for a nice dog crate for your pet? One that doesn’t look quite so institutional as those metal and plastic ones available at the pet store?

This furniture-style wicker dog crate might suit your furred friend’s fancy. “If you want to crate-train your dog but don’t like the looks of ordinary metal ones, here’s your solution—a dog house that’s attractive enough to keep in your living room for day-in, day-out use, or outside on your deck or patio. Woven of sturdy two-tone resin wicker that repels water, it won’t absorb doggy odors or fluids and washes clean with just soap and water.”

As a nice bonus, the roof lifts up to reveal a shelf for storage. Finally, the perfect place to hide your pile of dog toys when company is over…
