Halloween Toys for Your Dog

Posted in Pet toys at 7:43 pm by Pet Luxury

Halloween dog toyEverybody likes to get into the spirit of the holidays, and that can include dogs too. With Halloween just around the corner (okay, it’s over a month away, but the candy is already in the stores, so it must be time to blog about it), you’ll doubtlessly be thinking of appropriate decorations.

One way to add a bit of Halloween cheer to the house is to have pet-approved holiday toys. Specifically, this plush pumpkin dog toy might be just the thing:

“This Halloween, surprise your dog with a new treat: the Pumpkin Plush Dog Toy! Featuring two cute, beady eyes, an adorable celery-colored stem and striking poppy colored body, this toy is the perfect treat for a trick! This toy’s fabric is made from 85% recycled IntelliLoft fibers and stuffed with IntelliLoft fiber fill, all derived from recycled plastic bottles so you and your dog will good about getting it.”

The stuffed pumpkin costs $12 from Wrapables.

Beyond the Tennis Ball with “Huck” Dog Toys

Posted in Pet toys at 12:57 am by Pet Luxury

Huck dog toysI was visiting a big rowdy vizsla/lab mix this weekend, and she destroyed the heck out of tennis balls. In the past, she even had a surgery to remove a tennis ball from her stomach. Obviously this dog needs a more durable throw toy (and constant supervision!). Perhaps “Huck” would be suitable.

These dog toys don’t look all that interesting in the picture, but the description promises they’ll be more fun than your average tennis ball:

“A new twist on an old favorite! Made from our extremely durable, one-of-a-kind material, Zogoflex®, Huck will keep your dog jumping…literally! With its hefty weight and grooved shape this incredible ball will bounce in all directions, giving your dog added exercise, and a good mental workout, to boot. Fling it across the field, bounce it on the ground, or toss it in the water (it floats!) – Huck can handle nearly anything your dog dishes out.”

A ball that bounces in odd directions could be fun, but if these can survive gnawing jaws, that’s probably the best feature!

Cat Rustler Cat Tube… It’s Better Than Paper Bags

Posted in Pet toys at 12:23 pm by Pet Luxury

cat toyIf you’re a cat owner, you’ve doubtlessly noticed how much fun kitties can have with a grocery store paper bag left on the floor. Even sedentary cats like to snoop around in there, and they seem to dig the way the construction paper rustles and crinkles.

Well, here’s a cat toy that emulates that paper bag sound while being a little more durable (and looking a little less silly sitting on the floor in your living room). It also allows cats to crawl inside and have fun doing whatever it is they think they’re doing in those hidey holes.

The “CatRustler” encourages “solo investigations [which] help them acquire important information about their environment such as sounds that signal the presence of prey… The CatRustler, with its adjustable contours and soft, crackly interior, holds all sorts of irresistible feline mysteries awaiting exploration.”

Sounds like fun for the kitties.

Floating Log–a Toy for Your Pet Turtle

Posted in Pet toys at 9:33 pm by Pet Luxury

Floating Turtle LogI have a dog and grew up with cats and dogs, so I tend to hunt down and blog about the fun cat- and dog-related products out there, but I know there are other types of pet owners who might stop by, so I’ll try to work in a few items for other types of pets. And today it’s turtles!

Specifically, take a look at the “Floating Turtle Log.”

Yes, pet turtles can get bored in captivity, so here’s something to make life a little more interesting. “Zoo Med’s floating turtle log is the first product on the market designed for interactive play with your pet aquatic turtle! … [It] provides a naturalistic hollow log to swim through, sleep in, or bask on top of.”

The Stick, Sometimes Simple Dog Toys Work Best

Posted in Pet toys at 9:20 pm by Pet Luxury

rubber stick dog toyIf you have pets (or kids) you’ve probably experienced the dubious joy of purchasing a fancy, expensive toy and watching them have a great time playing with… the box.

Sometimes the simple toys are the best. I don’t know what your dog likes, but my guy is just as happy with a stick I pick up off the ground. He’ll fetch it from the water but his favorite game is playing keep away with it. That means “The Stick” would probably be a hit with him.

“Made of solid rubber, you can throw The Stick just like, well, a stick! Perfect for a retrieving toy for medium to large dogs, and safe for use in pools and almost anyplace where there’s water.”

Features include rugged and bendable material that is puncture resistant (which means it’ll last a lot longer than real sticks) and pliable enough to be gentle on doggy gums.

A “Toy Box” for Cats

Posted in Pet toys at 10:25 am by Pet Luxury

cat toy boxIf you want to give your cat something more exciting to do than lounging around on the window sill, perhaps some cat toys are in order. Toys can be a fun way for cats to stimulate their minds and get some exercise as well, and even older kitties enjoy something new.

While I haven’t seen the “Peek-a-Prize” toy box in action, it looks like a fun way to entertain your feline friends (and unlike the crumpled newspaper ball on a string, it doesn’t require you to be a part of the game–just load this puppy up and let them at it).

Made from wood, the toy box encourages cats to capture their toys by fishing them out of strategically placed access holes. The unit comes with two balls, and you can buy others to stuff in there in sets of three.

$29 through Amazon:

Catnip Caterpillar Offers Fun for Cats

Posted in Pet toys at 1:48 pm by Pet Luxury

Catnip toy for catsAll cats love catnip, but you don’t want the loose stuff all over the house. That’s why a catnip toy is a fun choice for kitties. They can smell the catnip and will have fun batting around the toy, but dried herbs won’t escape to coat everything.

This handmade catnip toy is shaped into a fuzzy little caterpillar. At 8″ long, it shouldn’t get lost very easily. The toy is stuffed with 100% pure catnip. Available at Etsy for $6.
