Vest-style Bird Carrier Lets You Take The Chicks on the Road

Posted in Birds at 11:17 am by Pet Luxury

Vest-style bird carrierDogs need to get out for fresh air… well, maybe your birds want a change of scenery too. Usually it’s a bit complicated to take them outside, but with this vest bird carrier, you could leave the cage behind.

“Easily transport your bird - to the veterinarian or the park - and keep him close, safe, and secure. Hands-free, vest-style bird carrier has padded shoulder straps and quick-clip waist strap for comfort. Durable mesh fabric allows good airflow and visibility for your bird. Zippered opening at top and bottom allows access. Removable bottom tray catches messes and wipes clean easily. Includes 1/2″ diameter beveled perch and two toy hanging loops. For small and medium size birds, such as parakeets, conures, canaries, finches, budgies, and lovebirds.”

In addition to just being able to go for a walk with your birds (and letting them see the world), this would be handy for any necessary trips to the vet too.

Cat Rustler Cat Tube… It’s Better Than Paper Bags

Posted in Pet toys at 12:23 pm by Pet Luxury

cat toyIf you’re a cat owner, you’ve doubtlessly noticed how much fun kitties can have with a grocery store paper bag left on the floor. Even sedentary cats like to snoop around in there, and they seem to dig the way the construction paper rustles and crinkles.

Well, here’s a cat toy that emulates that paper bag sound while being a little more durable (and looking a little less silly sitting on the floor in your living room). It also allows cats to crawl inside and have fun doing whatever it is they think they’re doing in those hidey holes.

The “CatRustler” encourages “solo investigations [which] help them acquire important information about their environment such as sounds that signal the presence of prey… The CatRustler, with its adjustable contours and soft, crackly interior, holds all sorts of irresistible feline mysteries awaiting exploration.”

Sounds like fun for the kitties.

Pet Drinking Fountain Keeps Water Fresh and Filtered

Posted in Dishes & feeders at 9:43 pm by Pet Luxury

Dog Drinking FountainJudging by the number of dogs I see drinking out of the spigot (instead of the bowl underneath) at the dog park, I’m guessing canines prefer their water to flow fresh from the source. If that’s the case for your dog or cat, then this pet drinking fountain will probably be a hit.

The PetMate Deluxe Fresh Flow Pet Fountain is an “ultra-quiet purifying pet fountain for multiple cat households or small dogs, [which] provides naturally cool and oxygenated water”

It even has built in filters to improve taste and reduce odors. It looks like you can get the fountains in different sizes and colors.

Prices start around $30 at Amazon:

Designer Cat Bells Warn Birds When Kitty Approaches

Posted in Pet Accessories at 5:45 pm by Pet Luxury

Silver Cat BellsIf you’ve got outdoor cats, you may want to put bells on their collars to keep them from sneaking up on and killing the neighborhood birds. (It’s just not fun plucking little bird corpses out of the yard.) When the birds hear the bell ringing, they’ll take off, warned that a furry predator is approaching.

Any old cat bell will do, but if you like to give your pets the designer luxury look, then you may appreciate these sterling silver pet bells from Animal Stars.

“Our beautiful sterling silver bells are hand crafted using Lost-wax Casting process. Each bell has it’s own wonderfully unique tone. They sound like tiny wind chimes, all beautiful and just a bit different in tone.”

Wheat-free Dog Treats for Pets with Allergies

Posted in Natural pet food at 1:55 pm by Pet Luxury

Wheat-free Doggie TreatsHumans have food allergies (I’m supposed to avoid dairy and gluten myself), and pets can have food allergies too. Grains, especially, can be problematic since they’re not something dogs would eat in nature. If your furry friends have skin problems, dull coat, or stools that aren’t properly formed, it may be a food allergy!

If your dog is allergic to wheat (like soy, a fairly ubiquitous substance), you’ll be happy to know there are dog foods and dog treats out there that avoid the substance. These treats, for example, are wheat free:

The “Chicken Stew Wheat-Free Meatball Dog Treats” consist of natural chicken, rice and vegetables in a meatball dog treat.

“All of Grandma Lucy’s treats are handmade in their kitchen with only the finest USDA-approved ingredients. They have taken the extra step to have their facilities built to meet all of the high standards required by the California State Health Department to prepare food for restaurants, markets and other bakeries. Our nutritionists formulate the treats especially for your pet using only the finest ingredients. In fact, the very same ingredients they would serve their own families.”

Floating Log–a Toy for Your Pet Turtle

Posted in Pet toys at 9:33 pm by Pet Luxury

Floating Turtle LogI have a dog and grew up with cats and dogs, so I tend to hunt down and blog about the fun cat- and dog-related products out there, but I know there are other types of pet owners who might stop by, so I’ll try to work in a few items for other types of pets. And today it’s turtles!

Specifically, take a look at the “Floating Turtle Log.”

Yes, pet turtles can get bored in captivity, so here’s something to make life a little more interesting. “Zoo Med’s floating turtle log is the first product on the market designed for interactive play with your pet aquatic turtle! … [It] provides a naturalistic hollow log to swim through, sleep in, or bask on top of.”

The Stick, Sometimes Simple Dog Toys Work Best

Posted in Pet toys at 9:20 pm by Pet Luxury

rubber stick dog toyIf you have pets (or kids) you’ve probably experienced the dubious joy of purchasing a fancy, expensive toy and watching them have a great time playing with… the box.

Sometimes the simple toys are the best. I don’t know what your dog likes, but my guy is just as happy with a stick I pick up off the ground. He’ll fetch it from the water but his favorite game is playing keep away with it. That means “The Stick” would probably be a hit with him.

“Made of solid rubber, you can throw The Stick just like, well, a stick! Perfect for a retrieving toy for medium to large dogs, and safe for use in pools and almost anyplace where there’s water.”

Features include rugged and bendable material that is puncture resistant (which means it’ll last a lot longer than real sticks) and pliable enough to be gentle on doggy gums.

Dog Crate Doubles as Bedside Table

Posted in Dog beds & crates at 9:35 pm by Pet Luxury

Dog Crate Furniture TableIf you’ve succeeded in crate training your dog, you may actually be able to get him or her to sleep in a crate next to your bed instead of on your bed (and under the covers with the head on the pillow…). The downside is that bedrooms usually aren’t that big, and it can get crowded quickly if you’ve got a dog crate in there as well as a bed, bedside tables, dressers, etc.

The solution?

Consider combining furniture pieces. For inspiration, check out this dog crate from Crate Haven: it doubles as a dog bed and a perfectly functional bedside table.

Pick up something like this, and you’ll enjoy the extra space it frees up, and Fido will appreciate the chance to sleep so closely to you at night.
